New NICE/SCIE quick guide – Helping to prevent winter deaths
For vulnerable people, living in a cold home increases their chance of serious illness or death. They are at a higher risk of a heart attack or stroke, breathing problems, flu, depression and falls. A new quick guide from NICE and SCIE explains how some simple preventative actions can help to save people’s lives. The guide will be of particular interest to home care managers. By training staff to recognise and support people at risk, managers can play an important role in preventing harm caused by a lack of heating.
